Desmocollin 2는 desmocollin 단백질 하위군에 속하는 단백질로, desmoglein과 함께 desmosome의 주요 구성 요소인 cadherin 유사 막단백질입니다.
Desmosome은 세포 간 접합 구조로, 기계적 스트레스에 노출되는 세포에서 높은 농도로 존재하며 전단력을 견디는 데 도움을 줍니다.
이 유전자는 18번 염색체에 다른 desmocollin 계열 유전자들과 클러스터로 존재하며, 돌연변이는 arrhythmogenic right ventricular dysplasia-11과 관련이 있습니다.
또한 여러 암 유형에서 단백질 발현 감소가 보고되었습니다. 대체 스플라이싱으로 여러 전사체 변이형이 생성됩니다.
