Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene is a glycoprotein belonging to the pentraxin family, characterized by a pentameric organization. Members of this family share high sequence homology due to gene duplication. The encoded protein binds to proteins in the pathological amyloid cross-beta fold, suggesting a possible chaperone role. It is also thought to regulate chromatin degradation and binds to apoptotic cells at an early stage, indicating involvement in apoptotic cell clearance in vivo.
