Target Information

Human growth hormone (hGH) is a member of the somatotropin/prolactin family of hormones that play an important role in growth control.
The GH1 gene, along with four additional related genes, is located at the growth hormone locus on chromosome 17.
These genes share a high degree of sequence identity, and alternative splicing results in five isoforms (approximately 19–24 kDa).
hGH is produced by somatotroph cells in the pituitary gland and acts through cytokine receptor subfamily membrane receptors.
Its primary function is to stimulate the liver and other tissues to secrete IGF-1, promoting myoblast differentiation and proliferation, as well as amino acid uptake and protein synthesis.
Mutations or deletions in the GH1 gene can lead to growth hormone deficiency and short stature.
