Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene is localized to the inner mitochondrial membrane and catalyzes the first step of mitochondrial fatty acid β-oxidation. It acts on long-chain and very-long-chain fatty acids. Deficiency of this enzyme reduces myocardial fatty acid oxidation and is associated with cardiomyopathy. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms.
