Target Information

KLF15 is a nuclear protein belonging to the Sp1 C2H2-type zinc-finger protein family with three C2H2-type zinc fingers. It acts as a transcriptional activator, binding to the GA element of the CLCNKA promoter and regulating tissue- and nephron segment-specific expression of CLCNKA and CLCNKB channel genes. KLF15 plays an essential role in adipogenesis through regulation of PPARG expression and functions as an inhibitor of cardiac hypertrophy, regulating cardiac response to hemodynamic stress. It also influences mitochondrial acetyl-CoA synthase expression in skeletal muscle and may repress photoreceptor-specific gene expression in nonphotoreceptor cells. KLF15 is highly expressed in liver, followed by heart, skeletal muscle, and kidney, but not in bone marrow or lymphoid tissues.
