Target Information
NUCB2 (Nucleobindin-2) is a calcium-binding protein containing an EF-hand motif that interacts with Necdin, a growth suppressor expressed mainly in postmitotic neurons. NUCB2 is secreted and cleaved into three major peptide products — Nesfatin-1, Nesfatin-2, and Nesfatin-3.
Nesfatin-1 is known to suppress food intake in a leptin-independent manner. Studies suggest that NUCB2/Nesfatin-1 plays roles in energy homeostasis and neuroendocrine regulation.
