Target Information
The NBPF (Neuroblastoma Breakpoint Family) gene family consists of numerous recently duplicated genes primarily located on human chromosome 1. These genes contain tandemly repeated DUF1220 protein domains. Copy number variations in the 1q21.1 region, where DUF1220 domains are located, have been linked to developmental and neurogenetic disorders such as microcephaly, macrocephaly, autism, schizophrenia, congenital heart disease, and neuroblastoma. Altered expression of NBPF family members has also been associated with various cancers. This gene family includes multiple pseudogenes.
