Target Information

The calcium pump of the plasma membrane, termed PMCA ATPase, pumps calcium from the cytosol to the extracellular space. This membrane-bound enzyme is related to other ATPases such as SERCA ATPase and the Na⁺/K⁺ pump.

• Four different genes encode PMCA ATPase, producing 20 isoforms via alternative splicing.
• Isoforms 1 and 4 are expressed in most tissues; isoforms 2 and 3 show tissue-specific expression.
• In pancreatic beta cells, only the 4b isoform is expressed, while alpha and gamma cells express both 4a and 4b isoforms.
• Different splice variants exhibit distinct affinities for calcium and calmodulin (Cat. # MA3-917 and MA3-918).
