Target Information
Peroxiredoxin (Prx) is a growing peroxidase family whose mammalian members are known to be involved in cell proliferation, differentiation, and apoptosis. Approximately 50 isoforms exist, classified by sequence homology and active site cysteine residue. Mammalian Prx proteins (20–30 kDa) are divided into typical 2-Cys, atypical 2-Cys, and 1-Cys Prx groups. Prx VI belongs to the 1-Cys subgroup, while the other five 2-Cys Prx isotypes exhibit thioredoxin-dependent peroxidase (TPx) activity using thioredoxin, thioredoxin reductase, and NADPH. Subcellular localization varies: Prx I, II, VI in cytosol; Prx III in mitochondria; Prx IV in ER and secreted; Prx V distributed in peroxisome, mitochondria, and cytosol.
