Product Specific Information

The antibody BMS137 recognizes platelet endothelial cell adhesion molecule 1 (PECAM-1, CD31), a transmembrane glycoprotein (~130 kDa) expressed on all vascular cells and serving as a useful immunohistochemical marker of blood vessels, especially during angiogenesis. It is also found on platelets, monocytes, neutrophils, CD8+ T cells, bone marrow stem cells, and certain tumor lines.

PECAM-1 plays a role in inflammation and leukocyte-endothelial interactions and acts as an early and sensitive marker for tumor-induced angiogenesis. It may also be involved in embryonic angiogenesis and metastasis formation.

Applications Reported:
Suitable for ELISA, Western blot (non-reduced conditions), cell staining (FACS/Flow cytometry), and immunohistochemistry (frozen and FFPE tissues).

Applications Tested:
Validated for Western blot and IHC on human FFPE tissue (low/high pH antigen retrieval, 30 µg/mL). Optimal dilution should be determined experimentally.

Target Information

CD31 (PECAM-1) is an inhibitory coreceptor regulating T and B cell signaling via ITIM motifs that recruit protein-tyrosine phosphatases upon phosphorylation. It is widely expressed in the vascular compartment, mainly at intercellular junctions. The N-terminal Ig-like domain mediates homophilic binding, crucial for cell-cell interactions.
