HYOU1은 heat shock protein 70 계열에 속하며, 세포 내 단백질의 접힘과 분비에 중요한 역할을 하는 것으로 알려져 있습니다. 단백질 발현 억제 시 세포자멸사가 촉진되므로, 저산소 유도 세포 손상에 대한 세포 보호 기능을 가지는 것으로 제안됩니다. 특히 유방암 등 종양 조직에서 발현이 증가하며, 종양 침습성과 관련이 있습니다. 이 단백질은 ER 내에서 하우스키핑 기능을 수행하며, rat에서는 ER과 미토콘드리아 모두에 위치합니다.
