Target Information
The HAND2 protein belongs to the basic helix-loop-helix family of transcription factors. It is one of two closely related HAND proteins, asymmetrically expressed in developing ventricular chambers and essential for cardiac morphogenesis. HAND2 functions in the formation of the right ventricle and aortic arch arteries, and plays a key role in limb and branchial arch development. These properties implicate it as a mediator of congenital heart disease.
