Target Information
Isocitrate dehydrogenases catalyze the oxidative decarboxylation of isocitrate to 2-oxoglutarate. These enzymes belong to two subclasses: one utilizes NAD(+) and the other NADP(+).
Five isocitrate dehydrogenases have been reported: three NAD(+)-dependent (mitochondrial matrix localized) and two NADP(+)-dependent (one mitochondrial, one cytosolic).
The NADP(+)-dependent cytoplasmic isozyme encoded by this gene is found in cytoplasm and peroxisomes and contains a PTS-1 peroxisomal targeting signal sequence.
This enzyme contributes to NADPH regeneration for peroxisomal reductions and cytoplasmic NADPH production.
