Target Information
PINK1 (PTEN-induced putative kinase 1) protects cells from mitochondrial dysfunction through autophosphorylation activity on mitochondrial genes. The kinase domain is critical for its protective effects. Mitochondrial proteins regulate cellular energy and stress adaptation, especially in brain cells with high energy demand. Disruption of mitochondrial function can lead to neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s disease.
