Target Information

Mammalian mitochondrial ribosomal proteins are encoded by nuclear genes and function in mitochondrial protein synthesis. Mitoribosomes consist of 28S and 39S subunits, with a higher protein-to-rRNA ratio than prokaryotic ribosomes. Unlike prokaryotic ribosomes, mammalian mitoribosomes lack a 5S rRNA. The DAP3 gene encodes a 28S subunit protein involved in apoptotic pathways initiated by TNF-α, Fas ligand, and IFN-γ. It may bind ATP/GTP and interact with mitoribosomal protein S27. Splice variants exist but encode the same protein. Pseudogenes are located on chromosomes 1q and 2q.
