Target Information
Prostaglandins are produced by the metabolism of arachidonic acid. Prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) is one of five physiologically significant prostanoids. Its wide range of effects in various tissues is mediated through binding to Prostaglandin E2 receptors (EP1, EP2, EP3, EP4). These receptors influence immune, endocrine, cardiovascular, renal, and reproductive systems, as well as smooth muscle function.
EP2 receptors are 358 amino acid G-protein coupled receptors that stimulate adenylyl cyclase via Gs coupling and do not undergo PGE2-induced internalization. They are primarily localized in lung and placental tissues and play roles in smooth muscle contraction and relaxation.
