Target Information

This gene belongs to the superfamily of acid-sensing ion channels (ASICs), which are proton-gated, amiloride-sensitive sodium channels. These channels are involved in synaptic transmission, pain perception, and mechanoperception.
The gene is predominantly expressed in the pituitary gland and was once considered a candidate for paroxysmal dystonic choreoathetosis (PDC), but no correlation was found between mutations and the disorder.
Alternative splicing at this locus results in two transcript variants encoding different isoforms.
