Target Information
Carbonic Anhydrase XI (CA11, CA XI) belongs to the family of zinc metalloenzymes that catalyze the reversible hydration of carbon dioxide. It participates in various biological processes such as respiration, calcification, acid-base balance, bone resorption, and the formation of aqueous humor, cerebrospinal fluid, saliva, and gastric acid.
CA XI is likely a secreted protein but lacks catalytic activity due to changes at conserved active site residues. It shares similarities with other acatalytic isoforms CA VIII and CA X and is most abundantly expressed in the brain, suggesting a role in the central nervous system.
