GSTM2는 mu 클래스에 속하며, 전자친화성 화합물(발암물질, 약물, 환경 독소, 산화 스트레스 생성물 등)을 글루타티온과 결합시켜 해독하는 기능을 합니다.
mu 클래스 효소를 암호화하는 유전자는 염색체 1p13.3에 위치한 유전자 클러스터에 존재하며, 높은 다형성을 보여 개인의 발암물질 감수성, 독성, 약물 반응성 등에 영향을 줄 수 있습니다.
