Target Information
Bromodeoxyuridine (5-bromo-2-deoxyuridine, BrdU) is a synthetic nucleoside and thymidine analogue. BrdU is widely used to detect proliferating cells by incorporating into newly synthesized DNA during the S phase of the cell cycle. Antibodies specific for BrdU can detect incorporated BrdU, indicating cells actively replicating their DNA. Antibody binding requires DNA denaturation, typically achieved by acid or heat treatment.
