Target Information
WW domain-containing proteins are found in all eukaryotes and play an important role in regulating various cellular functions such as protein degradation, transcription, and RNA splicing.
This gene encodes a protein containing 2 WW domains and a short-chain dehydrogenase/reductase domain (SRD).
Highest normal expression is detected in hormonally regulated tissues including testis, ovary, and prostate.
This pattern and the SRD domain suggest a role in steroid metabolism.
The encoded protein shares over 90% identity with the mouse protein, an essential mediator of TNF-alpha-induced apoptosis, implying a similar role in human apoptosis and tumor suppression.
Alternative splicing generates transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms.
