Target Information
Alpha catenin is a member of the β-catenin family of cytosolic proteins. It interacts with N-cadherin and β-catenin on the cytosolic side of adherens junctions to mediate the interaction with the actin cytoskeleton. Alpha catenin exists as a homodimer in solution but can dissociate to form a 1:1 heterodimer with β-catenin to interact with cadherins. It plays a role in regulating synaptic morphological plasticity and cerebellar and hippocampal lamination during development, as well as in controlling startle modulation.
