Target Information
The NDUFS6 gene encodes a subunit of NADH:ubiquinone oxidoreductase, the first enzyme complex in the mitochondrial electron transport chain. This complex transfers electrons from NADH to the respiratory chain. The encoded subunit is one of seven in the iron-sulfur protein fraction. Mutations in this gene cause mitochondrial complex I deficiency, leading to various clinical disorders including neonatal disease and adult-onset neurodegenerative disorders.
