Target Information

The c-Myc protein is a 62 kDa transcription factor encoded by the c-Myc gene on human chromosome 8q24. It is commonly activated in various tumor cells and plays a key role in:

  • Cellular proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis, and cell cycle progression
  • Phosphorylation at Thr58/Ser62 by GSK3, CDK, ERK2, and JNK, influencing proliferation and cycle regulation
  • Vasculogenesis and angiogenesis during tumor development

Antibodies against c-Myc epitopes recognize overexpressed proteins containing Myc epitope tags fused to either amino- or carboxy-termini of target proteins.
Amplification of the c-Myc gene has been found in multiple human tumors, including lung, breast, and colon carcinomas. Translocation of the c-Myc locus is associated with Burkitt’s lymphoma and other B-cell proliferative disorders. Aberrant expression of c-Myc occurs in tumors of diverse origins such as colorectal, gastric, hepatic, ovarian, and hematopoietic neoplasms.
