Target Information
Slc6a9 is a glycine transporter (GlyTs) belonging to a family of high-affinity Na⁺- and Cl⁻-dependent neurotransmitter transporter proteins.
There are two subtypes of glycine transporters: GlyT1 (Slc6a9) and GlyT2.
Slc6a9 is predominantly located on glia within caudal brain areas.
Glycine acts as an inhibitory neurotransmitter in the central nervous system.
The protein encoded by the Slc6a9 gene removes glycine from the synaptic cleft to terminate signaling.
Diseases associated with SLC6A9 include Glycine Encephalopathy With Normal Serum Glycine and Infantile Glycine Encephalopathy.
