Target Information
Cardiac Troponin T (cTnT) is the tropomyosin-binding subunit of the troponin complex, located on the thin filament of striated muscles. It regulates muscle contraction in response to intracellular calcium ion changes and is essential for proper muscle function and myofibril formation. In the human heart, four cTnT isoforms are expressed in a developmentally regulated manner. Expression levels are influenced by heart failure. Mutations in the cTnT gene are associated with familial hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and dilated cardiomyopathy. Alternative splicing of the gene results in multiple tissue-specific isoforms.
