SNRPG는 스플라이소솜 U1, U2, U4, U5 소핵 리보핵단백질(snRNP)의 핵심 구성 요소로, 세포 내 전사 전 mRNA의 스플라이싱 과정에 중요한 역할을 합니다. 대부분의 snRNP는 SNRPB, SNRPD1, SNRPD2, SNRPD3, SNRPE, SNRPF, SNRPG 단백질로 구성된 헵타머 단백질 링을 형성하여 핵심 snRNP 복합체를 구성합니다. 또한 히스톤 3'-말단 가공에 관여하는 U7 snRNP 복합체에서도 기능하는 것으로 알려져 있습니다.
