Target Information
The HOXC8 gene belongs to the homeobox family of genes, which encode a highly conserved group of transcription factors essential for morphogenesis in multicellular organisms. Mammals possess four similar homeobox gene clusters (HOXA, HOXB, HOXC, and HOXD) located on different chromosomes, each containing 9–11 genes arranged in tandem. HOXC8 is one of several HOXC genes located on chromosome 12 and may play a role in cartilage differentiation, potentially involved in chondrodysplasias or other cartilage disorders.
