The protein encoded by this gene is a cytosolic protein that contains a phosphotyrosine binding (PTB) domain, which interacts with the cytoplasmic tail of the LDL receptor. Mutations in this gene can cause LDL receptor malfunction, leading to autosomal recessive hypercholesterolaemia.
