Target Information
A-kinase anchor proteins (AKAPs) are structurally diverse proteins that bind to the regulatory subunit of protein kinase A (PKA), confining the holoenzyme to specific cellular locations. The AKAP12 gene encodes a member of this family, expressed in endothelial cells, cultured fibroblasts, and osteosarcoma cells. It associates with protein kinases A and C and phosphatase, functioning as a scaffold protein in signal transduction. AKAP12 and RII PKA colocalize at the cell periphery and are related to cell growth. Antibodies to this protein may be produced by patients with myasthenia gravis. Alternative splicing results in two transcript variants encoding different isoforms.
