Target Information
Chromosome 8 comprises approximately 146 million bases and encodes about 800 genes. Translocations involving chromosome 8 and amplifications of the c-Myc gene are observed in certain leukemias and lymphomas, typically associated with poor prognosis. Portions of chromosome 8 have been linked to schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and Warkany syndrome 2 (trisomy 8), which can cause developmental and facial abnormalities. Additionally, chromosome 8 is associated with Werner syndrome (WRN gene defect), Pfeiffer syndrome, congenital hypothyroidism, and Waardenburg syndrome.
