Target Information
BEST3 belongs to the bestrophin family of anion channels, which includes BEST1 (mutant in vitelliform macular dystrophy, VMD), and other BEST1-like genes BEST2 and BEST4.
Bestrophins are transmembrane proteins sharing a conserved homology region rich in aromatic residues, including an invariant Arg-Phe-Pro (RFP) motif.
The bestrophin genes exhibit a conserved gene structure with nearly identical exon sizes for the RFP-TM domain and highly conserved exon-intron boundaries.
Each of the four bestrophin genes possesses a unique 3′ end of variable length.
