Target Information
The membrane-associated protein encoded by this gene is a member of the ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporter superfamily. ABC proteins transport various molecules across extra- and intracellular membranes. This protein belongs to the MDR/TAP subfamily, which is involved in multidrug resistance. It functions as an ATP-dependent drug efflux pump for xenobiotic compounds with broad substrate specificity, contributing to decreased drug accumulation in multidrug-resistant cells and mediating resistance to anticancer drugs. Additionally, it serves as a transporter in the blood-brain barrier.
