Target Information

Carbonic anhydrase III (CAIII) is a member of a multigene family encoding carbonic anhydrase isozymes. These metalloenzymes catalyze the reversible hydration of carbon dioxide and are differentially expressed across cell types.
CA3 expression is tissue-specific, found at high levels in skeletal muscle and lower levels in cardiac and smooth muscle. Some carriers of Duchenne muscular dystrophy exhibit elevated CA3 levels.
The CA3 gene spans approximately 10.3 kb and contains seven exons and six introns.
