Target Information
Catalase is a homotetrameric heme-containing enzyme located in the matrix of all peroxisomes. It catalyzes the dismutation of hydrogen peroxide into water and oxygen. Human catalase contains a C-terminal sequence (-KANL) responsible for peroxisome targeting. The monomer has a molecular weight of approximately 61.3 kDa. Catalase plays key roles in inflammation, mutagenesis, apoptosis prevention, and tumor stimulation. Deficiency of catalase leads to acatalasemia (Takahara’s disease).
