Target Information
Cystatin superfamily는 여러 cystatin-like 서열을 포함하는 단백질군으로, 일부는 활성 cysteine protease 억제제이며, 일부는 이러한 활성을 잃었거나 가지지 않은 것으로 알려져 있습니다.
이 superfamily에는 type 1 cystatins (stefins), type 2 cystatins, kininogens의 세 가지 억제 계열이 포함됩니다.
Type 2 cystatin 단백질은 다양한 인간 체액과 분비물에서 발견되는 cysteine proteinase 억제제입니다.
Cystatin locus는 염색체 20에 위치하며 대부분의 type 2 cystatin 유전자와 pseudogene을 포함합니다.
이 유전자는 type 2 침샘 cysteine peptidase 억제제를 암호화하며, 침, 눈물, 정액 등에서 높은 발현을 보이는 S-type cystatin입니다.
이 단백질의 구체적 역할은 명확하지 않지만 항균 및 항바이러스 활성이 보고되어 보호 기능을 수행하는 것으로 추정됩니다.
