SA1-72016 detects Surfactant Protein B in human, mouse, and rat samples.
SA1-72016 has been successfully used in western blot procedures.
The SA1-72016 immunogen is from Chicken immunized with SP-B purified from Infasurf.

Target Information

Pulmonary surfactant is a complex mixture of phospholipids and proteins secreted from type II cells in alveoli. It reduces surface tension at the alveolar air-liquid interface, ensuring alveolar stability for normal ventilation.

Four distinct proteins isolated from pulmonary surfactant are termed surfactant proteins A, B, C, and D:

• SP-A (28–36 kDa) and SP-D (43 kDa): Collagenous carbohydrate-binding proteins
• SP-B (8–9 kDa) and SP-C (4 kDa): Non-collagenous hydrophobic proteins

SP-B is expressed in pulmonary adenocarcinomas with acinar, papillary, bronchioloalveolar, and solid growth patterns. Squamous cell and large cell carcinomas of the lung and nonpulmonary adenocarcinomas do not express SP-B.
ProSP-B is glycosylated in the Golgi apparatus and undergoes carboxy- and amino-terminal proteolysis by a cathepsin D-like protease.
