Target Information
The FOLR1 gene encodes a member of the folate receptor family, which binds folic acid and its reduced derivatives to transport 5-methyltetrahydrofolate into cells. The encoded protein may be membrane-anchored via a glycosyl-phosphatidylinositol linkage or exist in a soluble form. Mutations in this gene are associated with neurodegeneration due to cerebral folate transport deficiency. Multiple transcript variants encoding the same protein have been identified due to alternative promoters and splicing.
