RPS6KB1 (p70S6K) is a serine/threonine kinase with two non-identical catalytic domains that phosphorylates multiple residues of the S6 ribosomal protein.
It is mainly localized in the cytoplasm and plays essential roles in:

p70 S6 kinase acts downstream of phosphoinositide (PI) 3-kinase, targeting the S6 ribosomal protein to upregulate protein synthesis. Its kinase activity increases protein synthesis and cell proliferation.
Amplification and overexpression of p70 S6 kinase are observed in some breast cancer cell lines.
