Background
- Function: Receptor for the Fc region of complexed or aggregated immunoglobulins gamma. Low affinity receptor involved in effector and regulatory functions such as phagocytosis of immune complexes and modulation of antibody production by B-cells. Binding to this receptor down-modulates cell activation triggered via antigen or Fc receptors.
- Domain: Contains immunoreceptor tyrosine-based inhibitor motif (ITIM) and activator motif (ITAM), which modulate cellular responses.
- Subunit Interaction: Isoform IIB1 interacts with measles virus N protein and INPP5D/SHIP1.
- Tissue Specificity: Broadly distributed Fc-gamma-receptor expressed in monocytes, neutrophils, macrophages, basophils, eosinophils, Langerhans cells, B-cells, platelets, and placenta (endothelial cells). Isoform IIC1 detected in monocytes, macrophages, polymorphonuclear cells, and natural killer cells.
- Disease Association: Chromosomal aberration involving FCGR2B found in follicular lymphoma (t(1;22)(q22;q11)), leading to receptor hyperexpression and possible tumor progression.
- Similarity: Contains 2 Ig-like C2-type domains.
